Plant Trees in Winter?
Winter is a great time for planting trees! No
really, it actually is! Granted it is best if there is little
to no snow on the ground, but once you have gotten below the frozen
ground approximately 4-6", (depending on the severity of
temperatures) the earth is actually quite warm. Deciduous trees
are defoliated during the winter months therefore they do not
require as many nutrients, or as much water to support their leaf
structure. They are dormant, almost in a state of hibernation.
When trees are dug and then planted, they go through less shock
because they are in that dormant state. Once planted, the trees
are able to adapt to their new environment going into the spring
season when temperatures are mild, and rainfall is usually steady
and plentiful. All of these factors add up to more dependable
reliance on mother nature and less on man made practices and techniques.
Furthermore, when we plant trees for you during the winter season,
we provide the same guarantees as we would if we were planting
at any other time of the year. So go ahead, get some winter work
done! |
